Coughs, Colds & General Health

You should be in good health to give blood.

 

Cold sores

You can donate once the cold sore is dry and healing.

Colds, coughs, sore throats

You may be able to donate once you are getting better. If you still have symptoms, the registered nurse at a donation session will be able to provide an individual assessment.

Hay fever and similar allergies

You can donate provided that you have no symptoms, even if taking antihistamines.

Other infections

Please wait 2 weeks from recovery and at least 7 days from completing a course of antibiotics.

Sickness, diarrhoea

You can donate provided that you have been fully recovered for two weeks or more.

Broken bones

You can donate once your plaster cast has been removed and any wounds are healed.

High blood pressure, high cholesterol

You can donate while being treated for high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels. If your blood pressure medication changes you have to wait at least 4 weeks before donating.
